BAFTA have confirmed that they are introducing a category for the 2025 awards amoung other changes.

The entries for the 2025 BAFTA awards are now open and with it comes a few new changes including a new category, eligibility and voting guidelines. The 2025 awards will take place in February and for the first time there will be a prize awarded for Children's and Family Film set to "celebrate the very best films appealing to inter-generational audiences". This is the first new category to be introduced in the last 5 years since the category for Casting was added in 2020.
This award could see nominations for Paddington in Peru, Despicable Me 4, The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2 the latter becoming the highest grossing animated film ever. The category will see films rated U, PG and 12A eligible for the award.
The eligibilty for the Best Film award has also been updated, for films to be eligible for this category they must be theatrically shown 50 times throughout the UK; 10 sreenings per day for seven days to be eligible this is equal to 350 sceenings.
There are also voting changes to other categorys including Outstanding British Film, Director, Leading Actress, Leading Actor, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, and Documentary. With Eligibility changes afftecting Screenplay, Documentary, and Best Film to name few.
This years BAFTA awards saw Oppenheimer winning 7 awards across the board, Poor Things close behind winning 5 awards including Emma Stone recieving her second award.
