A look at the latest news from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hey Everyone!
Welcome back to the Lab!
I hope you are all keeping safe and well in this year that just doesn't seem to end!
Today i have gathered the latest news from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and collated them into one post so you don't have to go looking for them! So what are we waiting for, let's jump straight into our MCU News Roundup!
Wandavision Release Date
2020 has been a weird year for films and TV, with many projects being postponed or delayed indefinitely. 2020 was the first year in which no projects were released from Marvel Studios. When the year began we had the promise of two marvel films and new series on DisneyPlus, one of which being Wandavision.
Cut to November and all projects having been delayed by a whole year, a first for the studio, but not uncommon for 2020 as a whole. We then got the announcement of what project we are going to see first when the MCU kicks off Phase 4. Wandavision. Originally planned to be the second DisneyPlus show to debut, it has been moved up having been the only project to complete post-production entirely. The release date set being January 15th.
Set after the events of Avengers Endgame, the show sees both Wanda and Vision live a suburban life in the town of Westview, however as they start to live through different decades and encounter different types of television comedy troupes they start to suspect things are not as they seem. The show definitely seems like a bold way to kick off Phase 4 and it will be very interesting to see what this show has in store.
WandaVision premieres on DisneyPlus on January 15th.
Spider-Man 3 Casting Speculation
When talking about the MCU and where it is going to go in Phase 4, you cannot forget about everyone's favourite wall crawler. Last seen in 2019’s Far From Home. Spidey was framed for the murder of Mysterio; the damage to London and had his identity revealed to the world, so the question everyone is asking?
What happens next?
Well the plot details are still quite scarce at the moment, all we have is rumours, especially those spider-verse rumours. We know for a fact that Jamie Foxx as Electro is returning and that all the cast from the previous film is returning. Alongside information that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will be joining Spidey for his adventure. However what is now very heavily rumoured is another returning foe from Spidey’s most loved adventure. Alfred Molina has been speculated to reprise his role as Doctor Octopus.
Last seen sacrificing himself to save New York in Spider-Man 2, it is unclear how the character would feature in this sequel, whether his character would link to his previous outing or if it will be a new take. One thing is for certain, it certainly helps fuel the rumours surrounding a spider-verse film. Bear in mind this is still at the speculation stage, however due to multiple outlets reporting, don't be surprised if an announcement is made soon…
The Untitled Spider-Man sequel is currently in production and will be released on December 17th 2021
Thor: Love and Thunder - Returning Cast; Avengers ‘Feel’
As things stand, Thor is a well loved character within the MCU. However his first two outings have been as loved as the character. When Taika Waititi then joined as director for Thor’s third outing. Fans were very excited. Then when the film was released, it was a huge hit, both critically and commercially. Taking the character in a more comedic direction really suited him well and fans were thrilled to see Thor have a smash-hit film.
When Taika revealed he would be returning for the fourth outing entitled ‘Thor Love and Thunder’. Fans were once again thrilled. We found out through Comic-Con that joining him would be Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster, even learning she will be suiting up as Thor as well. We were also told about Christian Bale joining as the film’s antagonist, which is still being kept under wraps.
What we now have been told is that joining this already star-studded cast is the Guardians of the Galaxy led by Star Lord (Chris Pratt). This is not too surprising since we last saw Thor travelling with the Guardians at the end of Avengers Endgame but it is nice to have confirmation. The question is now, will they feature as primary characters or will they just be at the beginning of the film? Well considering the amount of cast returning being described as giving the film an “Avengers 5 Feel” by a disney insider, i think we should start thinking they will be there for the entire film and not just the start. It is a bold direction to go for the God of Thunder’s fourth outing. Let’s hope Taika can create another film sensation.
