Lee Cronin set to unleash a new Mummy film in 2026
Lee Cronin's new project has been revealed, earlier this year the directer teased a new project on his instagram which has now been confirmed to be a new Mummy film. Following on from his latest box office success with Evil Dead Rise Cronin will be teaming up with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster for this latest Mummy installment.
The production powerhouses recent projects include Speak No Evil, Imaginary and The Exorcist: Believer for Blumhouse, and Salem's Lot and Night Swim for Atomic Monster. The two companies merged at the start of this year, both Jason Blum and James Wan are signed on to produce The Mummy hoping to repeat their past success.
Of course this isn't the first time that Blum House has worked with Universal Classic Monsters as they previously adapted HG Well's The Invisible Man in 2020 with director Leigh Whannell. Whannell also wrote and directed a new Wolf Man adaptation which is set to be released in 2025. With a string of previous Mummy interpretations Cronin has said 'This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and frightening" as of yet nothing else is known about the film but with the previous success of this assembled team we're sure this production will be another successful iteration of one of Universals Classic Monesters.
Previous Mummy films include the 90's franchise starring Brandon Fraiser which have become a cult classic, the first The Mummy film released in 1932 which created the subgenre which inspired various spin offs. And of course not forgetting the most recent attempt at resurrecting Universals Dark Universe in 2017 which was supposed to interconnect the classic monsters into a new franchise.
While we don't know much about Cronin's release we are excited about to see what he brings to this genre, the film is set to be released April 17th 2026.
